A Gift Guide for Men: Nothing

A jumble of wrapped Christmas presents.
Joy for you, but not for me.

I keep seeing people ask, Why are 50+ men so hard to shop for? or What do you get Dads for Christmas? The short answers are, we’ve got everything we want and nothing.

I know that’s not what people want to hear, but we don’t like the pressure of having to come up with something to give someone, and also feel happy about getting something we don’t like or didn’t need. I’m trying to reduce my stuff, I don’t need trinkets or nick-knacks, and I really do feel shitty when I give something somebody gave me to Goodwill.

Not to mention there’s the annoying type of person who gives gifts they think you need or should have had years ago. Nothing says Christmas like an aggressive-aggressive person saying, You’ve been wrong all this time, but you’ll thank me now that you have this most unnecessary widget in your kitchen and can’t live without it.

That said, we have people who love us. Why? We don’t know. But we love them, and we know that for some of them, such as my daughter, their love language is giving. So here are some ideas for Difficult Dads and Men over 50.
